Peterborough Beach, located along the iconic Great Ocean Road in Victoria, is a hidden gem that offers stunning coastal views and a peaceful atmosphere. Nestled between Port Campbell and Warrnambool, this charming seaside village makes for a perfect escape from the busier tourist spots along the coastline.

Recently, when my friend and their dogs stayed with us, we had to find a dog-friendly beach for an afternoon adventure. Luckily, Peterborough Beach was the perfect spot! While dogs are prohibited between the bridge and the monument at the car park south of Irvine Park from 9am to 6pm between December 1st and Easter Monday, outside of those hours (and especially at the time of year we visited), dogs are welcome off-lead. It’s ideal for giving them some freedom while we enjoyed the fresh sea air.

We visited at the end of September on a glorious spring day. The sun was shining, though it was a little windy at first. The breeze eventually settled, and it turned into a perfect beach day, allowing us to stroll along the sand with the dogs happily running ahead. The calmness of the setting and the warmth of the sunshine made it an unforgettable afternoon for us and our house guests, including their furry companions.
And you know what made it unforgettable? The kids made their first dance video together on the beach, and again a few days later at our front yard:
