Week 35: Busy Bee!

I absolutely LOVE being on Maternity Leave. You would’ve thought it would be hard to fill up my days – oh it is quite the opposite. With all this TIME I suddenly have available, I have pretty much filled up most of my days with activities and being quite productive. I go for a swim 3 times a week, I organise lunch catch ups with friends, done some Christmas shopping, up to date with my laundry, house is reasonably tidy at all times, and of course kept up with my medical appointments which are becoming more and more frequent now … Continue reading Week 35: Busy Bee!

Chocolate Banana Cupcakes Recipe

I’ve decided to bake these cupcakes today for two very simple reasons: Now that I am officially on Maternity Leave, I have all the time in the world to do whatever I want e.g. go swimming, shopping, watch TV shows, clean the house, go out to lunch, take naps, cook and BAKE! Otherwise I usually can’t be bothered baking… Prices of bananas are finally coming back down in Australia. Ever since the cyclone hit Queensland, where most of the bananas come from, prices of bananas have been ridiculously expensive (at one point it was $16 per kg!) making bananas the … Continue reading Chocolate Banana Cupcakes Recipe

Week 33: Maternity Leave!

I have waited for this day since I found out I was pregnant – I am officially on maternity leave! It is actually very difficult to physically maintain a fit state to fully concentrate at work. In the beginning of the pregnancy, I felt nauseous and sick most of the time. In the middle, I had some good days and some really bad days when my back used to cause problems. Now, in my third trimester – I’m just too big to keep up with the highly demanding pace at work. I am slow, big and heavy – and that … Continue reading Week 33: Maternity Leave!

Yum Cha at Golden Orient, Narre Warren

It feels like I haven’t food blogged in ages! Getting ready for this baby has taken over my life, all the childbirth education classes and the reading up on baby things and the check ups and appointments, etc. Life is also busy as always, and when you’re busy AND pregnant the last thing you want to do is spend hours cooking something blogworthy in the kitchen. So that’s exactly why when the opportunity presented itself today and I was heading off to a local Yum Cha restaurant close to home to catch up with an old friend, I thought why … Continue reading Yum Cha at Golden Orient, Narre Warren

Week 30: Flights, Pram & Paid Parental Leave – CHECK!

Week 30 and getting more things done in preparation for the big day. 10 more weeks to go! I have booked flights for my parents to come and visit me in Melbourne (my parents live in Malaysia) on the 27th June 2012. I know that seems ages away, but I booked those dates for various reasons: The flights on that date are the CHEAPEST flights I could find on Air Asia’s website. It would take a lot of getting used to – having an extra person in the house aka a BABY, I think hubby and I would appreciate as … Continue reading Week 30: Flights, Pram & Paid Parental Leave – CHECK!

Childbirth Education Class Part 1/3

Hubby and I went to our first Childbirth Education Class last night at Casey Hospital. It was really good to attend the class as a couple, and be surrounded by other couples who are going through the same stages of pregnancy and are also about to be first time parents. It also felt good that we weren’t the only ones who are almost completely clueless about what to expect, and realise how little we knew. The Childbirth Education Classes Program at Casey Hospital costs $75 per couple – and are split into 3 weeknight sessions from 6.30 – 9.30pm. The … Continue reading Childbirth Education Class Part 1/3

Week 29: Nursery Update (Getting there!)

Our house has 3 bedrooms and a study. So, we previously had a master bedroom, a study and 2 guest rooms. One of the guest rooms had just a bunk bed and the other guest room has a single bed and bookshelves so we also refer to that room as the “library”. Now that we need to convert the 2nd guest room / library into a nursery… last weekend we were faced with the question: What do we do with that single bed??? Our baby will not require a bed for at least a few years, and the room is … Continue reading Week 29: Nursery Update (Getting there!)

Week 28: Blood Test for Gestational Diabetes

Yesterday, I made my way to Casey Hospital bright and early at 8.30am for my Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) to basically check if I have pregnancy diabetes (or Gestational Diabetes) or not. Leading up to this test, I found the more I try to avoid sugary foods, the more I tend to give in to temptation! Perhaps it’s just me constantly thinking about NOT eating / drinking sugary stuff… it gets in my head, and I craved it more and more. I probably had more Coca Cola the week leading up to the test than I ever had throughout the … Continue reading Week 28: Blood Test for Gestational Diabetes

Week 26: (Good) Changes at Work

Just a quick update: I had a chat to my boss at work on Friday about dropping down to part-time work, only 4 days a week and having Mondays off – and he said YES! I am sooo happy, the extra day will mean that my weekends are longer and therefore I am more relaxed, I get to recover if I just had a busy weekend, I get to schedule my house chores and “To Do”s and doctor’s appointments on a Monday, and I get the extra day to go to the gym for a swim. Basically look after myself … Continue reading Week 26: (Good) Changes at Work
