The Beginning…

This is a beginning to everything… beginning to a new life creation, beginning of a new blessing, beginning of a new journey ahead for both my husband and I. I’ve decided to start this blog for a few reasons: 1) I’m not much a “scrapbook” person. Many mothers keep a scrapbook of their child growing up – after all, it is an amazing journey to watch your own child grow up and the special occasions and milestones. I hate scrapbooking. So I think keeping a blog of all the challenges, the beautiful moments, achievements, milestones, pictures.. would be the best … Continue reading The Beginning…

I have not forgotten to blog… :)

Hello people! I don’t really know how many of you out there are actual regular readers of my blog… but if you are, thank you! I don’t think I have blogged in the past two weeks.. oh wait, let me check my last post, yess.. June 13 and it’s now July 1 so yes, I have slacked big time. I suppose life has taken over, and I’ve decided to take a bit of a “break” and enjoy my meals without stressing over aperture and shutter speed and lighting.. and now that I am getting more and more pregnant by the … Continue reading I have not forgotten to blog… ๐Ÿ™‚

Sri Lankan Hoppers – An Educational Post

When I first moved to Melbourne 5 and a half years ago from Malaysia, I didn’t have any problems adjusting to this city at all! Melbourne is quite possibly one of the most diverse and multicultural cities in the world. “In 2006, 35.8% of Melbourne’s population was born overseas, exceeding the national average of 23.1%. In concordance with national data, Britain is the most commonly reported overseas place of birth, with 4.7%, followed by Italy (2.1%), Vietnam (1.6%), China (1.5%), and New Zealand (1.5%). Melbourne has the world’s third largest Greek-speaking population after Athens and Thessaloniki (Melbourne’s Greek sister city), … Continue reading Sri Lankan Hoppers – An Educational Post

Part 4: Good Food and Wine Show Melbourne 2011 Final Recap

ย This year, the Good Food and Wine Show was a buzz for me because I not only get to explore the show (again) and try new things I didn’t get to try last year – I also got to meet a truckload of fellow food bloggers thanks to an exclusive blogger-only briefing and sneak preview of this year’s show. We were welcomed by exhibition director James Lang, as well as ABC Celebrity Chef and former MasterChef contestant Poh Ling Yeow. Our little “tour” began with some Mini Turkey Burgers tasting. It was a crazy rush as all the food bloggers … Continue reading Part 4: Good Food and Wine Show Melbourne 2011 Final Recap

Malaysia Kitchen @ Good Food and Wine Show 2011 Melbourne (Part 3: Final Recap)

I never thought I’d be blogging a 3-part blog series for Malaysia Kitchen alone! I will still need to do a full recap for the rest of the show other than Malaysia Kitchen and that is coming up next. I am so, so impressed at my fellow food bloggers who have somehow managed to “compress” everything into one single post. I’d like to believe that I tried.. but failed miserably, lol. So instead I’m going for the “small chunks” like short stories in a big book – come back tomorrow and read the new chapter! I did, however, manage to … Continue reading Malaysia Kitchen @ Good Food and Wine Show 2011 Melbourne (Part 3: Final Recap)

Malaysia Kitchen @ GFWS (Part 2: Allen Woo from LaksaMe Cooking Demonstration)

My day at the Good Food and Wine Show 2011, Melbourne continued with a delightful cooking demonstration by Allen Woo from LaksaMe. Allen was a great cooking demonstrator, he knew his Malaysian history and the story behind each unique ingredient as well as the story behind each dish! Look out MasterChef – this is one chef who will make sure the contestants know what they’re doing if you ever have him on the show for a Malaysian cooking challenge. Allen’s cooking demo was a lot more organised compared to Adam Liaw’s demonstration on the previous day. Not only did they … Continue reading Malaysia Kitchen @ GFWS (Part 2: Allen Woo from LaksaMe Cooking Demonstration)

Malaysia Kitchen @ GFWS (Part 1: Adam Liaw Cooking Demo)

Over the weekend, I went to the Good Food and Wine Show (GFWS) in Melbourne which has indeed become an annual event that cannot be missed. Not only is it right up my alley, you know, being a foodie and all.. it was also a great opportunity for me to catch up with my fellow foodie mates and meet celebrity chefs. Of course, there’s the food sampling. Not only do you get to sample one of the most diverse range of food and wine you will ever find under one roof, you also get to learn new things and taste … Continue reading Malaysia Kitchen @ GFWS (Part 1: Adam Liaw Cooking Demo)

Ayam Pansoh Tagine Recipe

Again going back to my roots, as you may or may not know I am born to a Chinese father and Iban mother. Tomorrow (1st June) is a hugely celebrated Gawai Festival (Harvest Festival) by local “Dayak” natives in my home state Sarawak, Malaysia. The Iban tribe is one of the main Dayak group of natives and I am proud to be half Iban. Every year, people in Sarawak celebrate Gawai by visiting friends and relatives, drinking lots of tuak (Sarawak Rice Wine), eating lots of amazing local traditional dishes and just partying all night long. This dish is a … Continue reading Ayam Pansoh Tagine Recipe

Butter Sotong (Peppered Butter Squid)

ย  In case some of you may not already know, I originally come from a small town called Kuching (well, it’s really a small city) in Sarawak, Malaysia. Doesn’t ring a bell? Well, it’s on Borneo island. Does that narrow it down geographically? Growing up in Kuching, one of the best FOOD cities I believe IN THE WORLD, I was blessed to have amazing food in abundance. Kuching boasts some of the best food you will ever taste, and they are mostly street food (hawker styled food) and our local restaurants offer the best banquets at the most affordable prices. … Continue reading Butter Sotong (Peppered Butter Squid)

Fish Head Tom Yum Soup

If you are completely turned off by the thought of eating fish head let alone some “delicate” bits of the fish head aka the gooey eye balls, then I would probably suggest you flick over to some other blog now, haha! On the contrary, if you are a huge fan of fish head like obviously I am – and if you think the fish head is really the best part of the fish and brings out the best flavors in a soup or fish curry or assam curry, then by all means please continue reading this blog post. I haven’t … Continue reading Fish Head Tom Yum Soup
