By now, Micah and I have established a pretty solid daily routine. It is not fixed to a specific time everyday, it does depend on what time he wakes up in the morning, but it is pretty accurate within plus/minus 30 minutes. Below is a typical example of what Micah does everyday – this is a typical STAY HOME routine, and we are hardly at home all day these days, but if you substitute the various “Play Time” with Grocery Shopping, Running Errands, Lunch Date, Play Date, Shopping Date, Mums Group, Walking, etc that should work. Whenever I have to go out and do something for a few hours, I normally do it between his morning nap and afternoon nap, and if I somehow go over-time he would usually fall asleep in his pram or in the car and that will count as his afternoon nap.
6.30am: Micah Wakes, Nappy Change
6.40am: Breast Feed
7.00am: Play Time / Time with Dad
8.30am: Play Time
9.20am: Nappy Change, Quick Breastfeed
9.30am: Morning Nap
11.30am: Play Time
1.00pm: Play Time
2.20pm: Nappy Change, Quick Breastfeed
2.30pm: Afternoon Nap
4.30pm: Play Time
6.00pm: Play Time
6.30pm: Bath Time
7.00pm: Time with Dad / Mum Cooks Dinner
7.30pm: Breast Feed
8.00pm: Bed Time
Obviously impromptu nappy changes are required whenever a stinky smell lingers in the air… but I generally like to give him a fresh nappy just before bed, hoping “feeling fresh” would make him more comfortable and sleep better lol.
Notice how there is a “quick breastfeed” just before naps? I know, I probably shouldn’t associate sleeping with a milk feed like that but it is so easy to put him to sleep after a milk feed! I know I can break the habit eventually when he’s a bit older so I don’t want to stress about it too much.
After all, Micah goes to bed wide awake most nights after a feed anyway. He cries for about 2 minutes (most of the time it’s really just for a few seconds!) and self settles himself to sleep. So at least I know I am already breaking away from putting him to sleep “fully knocked out” from his milk feeds. He is very good now at self settling and he has been sleeping through the night for the past 6 weeks and I am lovin’ it!
To summarise, Micah has two day sleeps of between 1.5 – 2 hours each and he is awake for between 3 – 3.5 hours in between, and he sleeps most nights for about 10-11 hours straight.
During his day naps, that is when I use that time to have a shower, do the dishes, do the laundry, clean the house, relax and watch my TV shows, write my blogs, go on Facebook, etc!
Micah is definitely a foodie and he loves his food. I can take him anywhere with me as long as he has food to keep him happy. He is generally a happy boy anyway and doesn’t have an issue sitting in his pram and he hardly ever throws a random tantrum in public, so I guess I am lucky he’s one of the good ones. Anyway, as part of his routine here’s a list of foods he eats:
Breakfast: 1.5 Weetbix + Mashed Banana
Lunch: 2 slices of Toasted Cheese Sandwich
Bread with Avocado
Sliced cucumber or tomatoes with roast chicken pieces
with fresh fruit (banana, papaya, grapes, mango are his favorites) or pureed fruit if we’re out and about.
Casserole – Chicken / Beef / Lamb / Fish / Pasta with Veggies
with Fresh Fruit / Pureed Fruit / Baby Custard for dessert
Basically, Micah is mostly a happy boy and I am mostly a happy mum. Speaking of happy mum, I should really go and have a shower now that he’s down for his morning nap – we have a lunch date at Fountain Gate today!
