Good things come in threes, and so it is that The “New” Empire Hotel on the corner of Camp and High Streets in Beechworth has three new owners Renowned chef Shauna Stockwell, together with Andrew Madden and Scott Daintry, share around 90 years of hospitality experience in some of the best restaurants and pubs in Australia, the US and the UK, and in recent years, in the North East.
The ground floor bar and lounge areas are spacious, light and airy, with polished original Baltic pine floors, some quirky, contemporary fittings, and a Chesterfield lounge setting around the granite fireplace that provides a welcoming space for an intimate gathering.
Along with a range of regional boutique beers and ciders, The Empire is proud to list offerings from each and every one of Beechworth’s vignerons, and the redboard cocktail list is inspired — a secret recipe featuring vodka, vanilla Galliano and Frangelico becomes Apple Crumble in a Glass.
The Empire’s revamped à la carte restaurant offers a more sophisticated dining experience.
We had dinner here while camping at Beechworth back in January 2021, and I have to say I am so glad we ended up here for dinner that night. Believe it or not, we walked all around Beechworth looking for a place to eat. Turns out the Beechworth Brewery only served pizzas, so we left after we had our beer tasting.. and then we walked to a nearby bistro/pub and we were turned away because our group was too big at the time for them to accommodate (due to Covid regulations at the time).. and finally ended up here at Empire Hotel and I absolutely loved their tapas style menu and the food was pretty good. Slightly pricey for the smaller tapas portion, but it was classy. Nice job, team Empire Hotel!
