A little belated post from at least five months ago, oops, haha but definitely one worth sharing!

Hubby and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary with dinner at Samesyn Restaurant, which also happened to be the perfect start to my birthday the next day. Between work, kids, church life and just general busyness, proper date nights don’t actually happen that often for us these days. Which is ironic considering I’m constantly off eating amazing food with my foodie friends 😂 So this one felt extra special.

We went for the tasting menu, plus added the Great Ocean Duck dish which was honestly the standout of the night for me. So, so good. Every dish felt thoughtful and intentional without trying too hard. Creative, seasonal and full of flavour, but still comforting and approachable.

What makes Samesyn Restaurant really interesting though is the whole concept behind it.

The restaurant is completely chef-run, meaning there are no traditional waitstaff. The chefs themselves prepare, serve and explain the dishes, which makes the whole experience feel much more personal and connected. You can genuinely feel the passion behind what they’re doing.

They’re also heavily focused on sustainability and community impact. The restaurant works with rescued produce, supports local growers, operates with a zero-waste philosophy, and profits help support Feed Me Surf Coast, a local initiative helping provide meals and support to people doing it tough. I always love seeing hospitality used as a way to create positive impact beyond just serving great food.

There’s something really refreshing about dining somewhere that feels purpose-driven without being pretentious about it.

And honestly, after 18 years of marriage, I think we’ve learned that it’s not necessarily the huge grand gestures that matter most. Sometimes it’s just carving out intentional time together over really good food, slowing down for a couple of hours, and appreciating how far we’ve come.

Very thankful for another memorable anniversary and birthday meal shared with my life partner 🤍
