I didn’t expect to get this emotional. Not just because Claude did for me what would have taken me hours, if not days… but because of what it gave back to me.
The problem with my old blog posts
This blog has been around for a long time. Many of my older posts were moved across from my original blog years ago, and somewhere along the way they lost their featured images. The photos were still inside each post, but on the category pages they showed up as plain text with no picture at all.

Fixing that by hand would have meant opening hundreds of posts one at a time, picking a photo and setting it as the featured image. It’s one of those jobs I kept putting off because I knew how long it would take.
So I asked Claude
I asked Claude to go into every post without a featured photo, choose the best photo from inside the post and set it as the featured image, so they would all appear on my category pages. It found around 420 of my 584 posts were missing one, and then it simply worked through them.

Why it made me cry
When I opened my Family category afterwards, there they were. All the baby photos I had shared over the years, every little milestone, suddenly looking back at me from one page. Posts I hadn’t looked at in a very long time were full of faces I love.

It saved me so much time, but that’s not really what got me. It gave me back something that’s so precious to me: a beautiful, browsable record of my family’s story. I did not plan on having AI make me cry today, but here we are!
Have you used AI for something that ended up meaning more than you expected? I’d love to hear about it.
