Well it’s almost time for us to get organised and get the baby nursery all ready for the bubba! I suppose this list is mostly to serve as my own personal checklist. I am also listing some smaller items people can get us for when we have a Baby Shower – but that’s not until November – so okay this is extreme forward planning but helps me get in the right planning frame of mind…
Speaking of Baby Shower, I really want to throw a “Not a Baby Shower BBQ” instead – so the men can come too and hubby can be fully involved in the excitement and anticipation of our first child. Now all I need is for our backyard to be fixed and decking in place so we can actually host that BBQ. Plan B – perhaps a BBQ somewhere in a park.. although that takes away the more intimate environment of hosting it at home. Ohh we shall see!
So here a list of things I believe is all sorted i.e. given to us, about to be given by family / friends:
- Bassinet (family hand-me-down)
- Cot (family hand-me-down)
- Portable Cot (gift)
- Baby clothes (from various people – gifted and borrowed)
- Car seat / capsule (borrowed)
- Play mat
- Nappy bag (I am the queen of bags of all sizes so I’m sure one of my many bags can be used for this purpose!)
Here’s a list of larger items we plan to purchase:
Pram (we have our eye on the Baby Jogger City Select.. it’s on sale now only $599 reduced from $929 at www.bambinobrands.com.au)(Update: Decided we don’t need a $600 pram… will hold off purchasing pram until we actually need it)Change Table that’s also a Bath(Update: Purchased)Chest of Drawers (eBay)(Update: Purchased)- High Chair (not required yet – probably will look at eBay)
Some smaller items we can hold off before purchasing in case people give them to us:
- Baby Monitor (one of those digital ones with audio and movement sensor – also tells temperature of the room, and has a night light, would be handy! Like this one)
- Baby Carrier for hubby, Cloth Sling for me (would be weird for Enoch to carry the baby around wrapped in a delicate, elegant piece of cloth don’t you think?)
Various accessories for Baby Jogger City Select – e.g. Car Seat Adaptor / Bassinet kit / Rain Canopy, etc. Full list of accessories available here.(Update: No need for these accessories anymore since we’ve changed our mind with regards to this particular model of pram!)- Additional baby clothes, singlets, socks, etc – ever growing baby could always use more clothes I suppose!
- Toys
Daily Essentials:
- Nappies
- Baby Wipes
- Nappy rash cream
- Baby powder
- Breast Pumps (?? I have noooo idea how things would go breast feeding wise, but I still think a pump is a good idea so Enoch can get up in the middle of the night and feed the baby instead!)
- Baby towels and facewashers
- Spew rag
- Baby bottles
- Dummies
- Bibs- for much later
- Miscellaneous solid food eating tools – for much later
Hhmmm… I think that’s about it. Am I missing anything???
– breast pads (protect the bra from wetting)- the walking chair thingy (great comes feeding time when bub is about 6 months+)- Teething tools!! Have heaps of them!! Crucial otherwise bub will cry on and on and on…- Soap friendly shower stuff (ie. QV, other – seek Nurse/Doctor advise) Important as bubs develop skin allergy in the early stage. For a nice to have..get a rocking big chair – pseudo feeding chair for you & entertainment chair for Enoch when bub doesn't need anymore feedingThat's all i can think for now. My nephew just turned one & i'm learning heaps! 😉

It makes me glad to see baby carriers getting the love they deserve! Most people seem to think that using one is lazy or something, but I think they'd change their tune if they ever had to actually carry a baby around all day at the zoo or something.
