Simple Apple Cake Recipe

A couple of weeks ago, I have overstocked on apples for the stuffing for the whole suckling pig I was cooking. We had so many apples leftover, I really wanted to use them and make a simple and moist apple cake. I used a familiar base cake recipe and just added the apples on top. The first time I made it, there wasn’t enough cake batter so the cake ended up being too thin and cooked too quickly. This didn’t leave enough time for my apples to cook – so it was a weird thin cake with hard apples. Tonight, … Continue reading Simple Apple Cake Recipe

Coconut House: Malaysian Restaurant in Melbourne

Ever since my son was born, I don’t get to eat out in the city very often anymore. That is why I don’t do a lot of restaurant reviews on my blog (although my blog is primarily for cooking and recipes anyway). However, last week while my family were in town visiting from Malaysia, I took them to Queen Victoria Market one fine afternoon and we ventured down Elizabeth St looking for lunch. Naturally, we were drawn to Coconut House for several reasons: Coconut House has two outlets within 20 feet from each other on the same street. For a … Continue reading Coconut House: Malaysian Restaurant in Melbourne

Week 31: 7 Months

Happy 7 Months today, my little boy! If you ever read this blog someday when you are much older, let me tell you that by this age you are already strong enough to stand up supported and taking steps and learning how to walk. You are a happy baby, very generous with your smiles and giggles, but unfortunately still struggling to sleep through the night… but it’s okay my little boy, we will get there eventually. Teeth Count: 6 (3 at bottom, and 3 at the top.. and they are sharp!) Just a few nights ago while you were busy … Continue reading Week 31: 7 Months

Week 30: Micah’s Baptism

To hopefully make up for my previous overtired and lazy post for Week 29, I am going to do a detailed recap of the past week since my parents and sis have been here. My mum’s stay has officially been extended! She was leaving on the 9th July with my dad and sis, but now she’s not leaving until the 6th of August!! Wooohoooo… I am so happy because it actually makes a huge difference having mum here. Hubby hasn’t been in his best shape recently either, due to a sports injury his back muscles have been injured and he … Continue reading Week 30: Micah’s Baptism

Whole Suckling Pig Recipe

Ever since I’ve had a Whole Suckling Pig at The Provincial, I’ve always had this ambition to cook a whole pig at home… and last weekend my wish came true!! Leading up to the event (my son’s Baptism Celebration lunch) I was constantly anxious about this pig. I’ve never handled a whole pig before, let alone cook it. I was so nervous! I was worried that I would mess it up and waste $230 worth of perfectly wonderful meat! Thankfully, with A LOT of help from my hubby our pig was a huge success!!! The meat was super tender and fell … Continue reading Whole Suckling Pig Recipe

Winter Warmers: Pea and Ham Soup Recipe

My mother in law makes great soup, and this is one of my favorites. Perhaps once again it is the meat factor, I love the fact that this recipe uses a smoked ham hock which is nice and fatty (just the way I like it!) and the ingredients are so common which makes this soup so easy and simple to make. This recipe is actually printed on the back of the McKenzie’s Green Split Peas 500g packet, so it only makes sense that I post this recipe on my blog so I never lose it! Although, come to think of … Continue reading Winter Warmers: Pea and Ham Soup Recipe

Week 28: EARTHQUAKE IN MELBOURNE! Quality Time, Biting & Playpen (Again)

Micah and I got to spend some quality time this week. On the weekend we went for a nice walk in the sun (very rare these days!) it didn’t feel like winter at all, and enjoyed a lovely lunch outside at Red Rooster. Look at that beautiful cheeky grin of his… he was so happy and content to be out smelling the fresh air.  Hubby is away in Queensland for 4 days this week so Micah and I will really be spending lots of quality time. We hung out at Glen Waverley today while I did some Asian grocery shopping … Continue reading Week 28: EARTHQUAKE IN MELBOURNE! Quality Time, Biting & Playpen (Again)

Georgio’s Seafood & Steak House, Beaconsfield

Photo credit: http://www.georgiosbeaconsfield.com.au Hubby and I rarely go out to dinner these days because of our 6-month old son. Back when he was a newborn, it was a lot easier to take him out at night because he would just sleep either in his capsule or his pram. Now that he is older, he is much to alert to fall asleep in public and he gets too grumpy if he stays awake. A few weeks ago, our friends had friends visiting from the United States so they have invited us to join them for dinner at Georgio’s Seafood and Steak … Continue reading Georgio’s Seafood & Steak House, Beaconsfield
